I am so excited to announce the first season of youth ministry vlogs here at The Youth Worker Daily! Back in the Fall of 2018, I start vlogging about youth ministry. My first episode was simply an introduction to what I was hoping to do. The idea was simple, share my experiences as a youth worker with other youth workers; what I was learning, my successes, my fails, favorite resources, and tips and tools to help youth workers.

Early on, episodes were shot in my car, as I drove back and forth to the office. The content was a little more free-flowing. I spoke about what was going on in my ministry, with little structure or organized thought. Today's episodes are more planned, researched, and organized. But back then, I was just getting started, figuring out where the vlog was heading.

Problem...The vlogs was scattered across
two â€‹different YouTube channels.

Here we are, almost 100 episodes of the vlog, but there was a problem. The vlogs was scattered across two different YouTube channels. Well, I wanted to fix that problem and bring each episode to our official channel for The Youth Worker Daily. So last week I started downloading the early episodes from my Jay Higham channel so I could gathering them all under one channel.

I am so excited to share that the first 15 episodes are now uploaded and available for binge watching right on our YouTube channel! You can watch the first season of The Youth Worker Daily right here on the blog, or on our channel. Click here to watch from the site, or click here to watch on YouTube!

Whether you watch season one here or on YouTube, be sure to SUBSCRIBE, so you receive notification of new uploads.

A Volunteer Youth Worker's Guide to Understanding Today's Teenagers
By Mark Oestreicher

Mark Oestreicher shows that Understanding Today’s Teenager is both possible and rewarding, if one has the right tools. Marko explores the dimensions of nature vs. nurture, brain activity, culture, biology, and emotional development, all of which lead teenagers to do the wacky things they do that adults don’t understand and often can’t remember having done themselves. Marko also reminds us that adolescent development doesn’t end at the age of 18 just because United States law says it does. A Volunteer Youth Worker’s Guide to Understanding Today’s Teenager uses a combination of science, logic, and compassion to help bring us back from the cliff edge and remember why we started working with teens in the first place. Use this book as a jumping-off point to re-ignite your passion for teens.

A Volunteer Youth Worker's Guide to Resourcing Parents
By Mark Oestreicher

Mark Oestreicher starts off A Volunteer Youth Worker’s Guide to Resourcing Parents by admitting some of his own failures in his interactions with students’ parents. But then Marko uses the rest of the book to explore the importance and deep significance of being intentional with parent contact and interaction, and not letting family ministry slip through the cracks in favor of teenager-only ministry. If you’ve had some discouraging interactions with parents lately, this book might help provide a new perspective, allowing you to show some grace, both to yourself and the parents you’re trying to minister to. Let Marko guide you in seeking the best balance in your ministry efforts in order to maximize and equip one of your greatest youth ministry resources

A Volunteer Youth Worker's Guide to Leading a Small Group
By Mark Oestreicher

In A Volunteer Youth Worker’s Guide to Leading a Small Group, Mark Oestreicher argues a different perspective. Marko insists that small groups promote safe spaces to grow, consistency in teenagers’ emotionally tumultuous lives, and repetition that instills in them the importance of trust and tradition. The Guide to Leading a Small Group is perfect for anyone feeling disenchanted with the concept of small groups, and after Marko succeeds in changing your mind in the first few pages, he’ll use the rest of the book to help you restructure and rethink your small-group programming so you don’t get burned out again.

Congratulations! You've agreed to serve as a volunteer-perhaps the most underrated, underappreciated, misunderstood role in youth ministry! But your role is also one of the most essential. Seriously-the healthiest, most effective youth ministries are built on a solid foundation of dedicated, talented, committed volunteers.

The Volunteer's Field Guide to Youth Ministry will help you chart a course of growth as a follower of Christ and as a leader in your congregation. You can read it from front to back, or you can treat it like a reference tool-scan for topics that are relevant today, and save the rest for later.

Chapter topics include:
  • Discovering your unique personality and the way God has wired you
  • Preparing for the adventure of youth ministry volunteer work
  • Understanding the teenagers you work with
  • Supporting parents as they raise their teenagers
  • Working with other volunteers on your team
  • Following leaders in your ministry and congregation
