It's a simple question, "What does it look like to live a Christian life?" What does it look like to know good, true, and accurate doctrine, to live an obedient life, and love as God calls us to love? Throughout the summer, we will walk through John’s first letter to the church asking the simple question, "God, how now do we live?" I want to invite you to grab your bible and join with me as we study through1 John.

This is a summer series. I will be preaching throughout the summer at Hickory Church. However, I will not be preaching weekly, so check out the tentative series calendar for Back to the Basics home page.

Follow Me, David Platt

You may think you are a Christian―but are you sure? Jesus’ call to follow him is more than an invitation to pray a prayer. It is a summons to lose your life and find new life and ultimate joy in him. In David Platt’s book Follow Me: A Call to Die. A Call to Live he asks the question, “What did Jesus really mean when he said, ‘Follow me’?” What if we really listened to Jesus’ words and heard what he is saying? When people truly engage with Jesus’ personal invitation to follow him, everything changes, for he is worthy of all our trust and affections.

Explain It To Me...

When was the first time you heard about Jesus, or the Gospel message? Do you remember that time? Do you remember what you were thinking? Do you remember how you were feeling? How did you respond? Why did you respond?

As we come to the third and final part of our short series, Lead Me To the Cross, we listen in on the final conversation. We meet Philip, who is led by the Spirit to an Ethiopian traveling from Jerusalem to Ethiopia. The Ethiopian is dealing with something that many of us wrestle with, understanding the story.

God uses Philip to explain the Good News to the Ethiopian, and it changes his life.

When did you understand the Gospel so that it changed your life? Let's listen in to part 3 of, Lead Me To The Cross, an Untraditional Easter Series.

Lead Me To The Cross Part 2

Come As You Are...

Sin. It isolates us. It whispers the lie that says, "You'll never be good enough. You're not worthy. You'll never be lovable." But that's simply NOT true.

The truth is, YOU are DEARLY loved! You are loved so much, that God sent His only Son to die for you. To free you from the sins that ensnare you. But too often, we hear those lies, and we believe that we must do something to clean ourselves up, fix what is broken, or do something so that we live better.

But as you will see in todays conversation, we don't have to ashamed of our sin. Jesus loves us despite of who we are and what we've done. In fact, it's the who and what that become part of the story that might lead others to Jesus.

Take a few minutes to listen to Come As You Are, part 2 of the Lead Me To The Cross series.

This past Sunday, I had the opportunity to preach at Hickory United E.P. Church, where I serve as the Youth Director. I always love when I get to bring God's word to the church. But on this particular Sunday, I was a little more excited as usual. They 'Why,' I will share in another blog post. But for now, I just want to share the recorded presentation.

I originally preached a similar message in January at another church. And while I don't like reusing preaching material, I felt the Lord leading me to share from this passage again. It turns out, the Spirit had something to say. These words were timely and appropriate.

So please, listen to the podcast. My prayer is that you too would be challenged and encouraged as you live out your faith.
