Ministry Recap - 01.25.2022

Welcome to our weekly Ministry Recap for the week of January 25th, 2022. Each week I hope to share what happened at our weekly student ministry gathering. From the games to our message to our worship and fun, I want to share what we're doing with our students. I hope this encourages you, and who know, maybe you'll get a idea or two out of this!

Our student ministry meets every Tuesday evening during the school year. Ministry recaps will post every Thursday of the same week.

this weeks highlights

Here are the highlights from this weeks student gathering...

• Schools were closed for a snow day which meant we were closed.
• We moved from in-person to Zoom.
• We had a great showing of students and leaders.

this weeks games

Since we were on Zoom, we played a scavenger hunt game that I made up called, What's In Your Bathroom? I made a list of common bathroom items that they had to find and bring back to show on the screen! Items included things like...

• A Plunger
• Roll of TP
• A Toothbrush
• Bar of Soap
• Pair of Tweezers
• A Floor Mat

I came up with 14 items in total.

this weeks worship set

Because we were on Zoom, we decided to forego our usual worship.

This weeks message summary

We started a new series called, SHINE. Based on Matthew 4:16, we are looking at what it looks like to let our light shine before others. The series starts as we talk about darkness and how the Bible often connect darkness with sin. Our intent is to start our journey recognizing that we are in darkness because of our sin, but with Jesus, we can step into the light.

We looked at Romans 1:18-25, and Paul's words about mans rejection of God and how in that rejection man stumbles through the darkness (Proverbs 4:14-19)

Our hope is that next week, we will be able to be in-person and can better connect our students with the truth of God's grace and the freedom that comes from know Jesus.

meet jay

Jay Higham is a veteran youth worker of over 30 years; having worked with students in the local church and Christian camping settings. Jay is currently serving as the Director of Family Ministry at Covenant Community Church, in Wheeling, WV. Jay has been married to Amy for 25 years. Together, they are raising 5 kids, (4 boys and 1 girl). Jay is an aspiring author, blogger, speaker, vlogger, and social media junkie. He is also the host of our new podcast, Conversations with Every Day Youth Workers! Jay is passionate about student ministry, family ministry, and connecting and networking with youth workers to help them serve their students with passion and excellence.
